All meetings are held on the second Saturday of the month at 2pm, refreshments from 1.30pm, at

Derbyshire House, Sherwin Street, Derby DE22 1GP.  Everyone Welcome.

From February 14th 2015 our meetings will be held on the second Saturday of the month
from 10.30am to 4pm
at St Mary's Church Hall, Darley Lane, Derby DE1 3AX

The morning session will be voluntary member-led workshops or members may bring their own work, (10.30 - 12.30), followed by a break for lunch.  The formal meeting and talk will start at 2pm

 Saturday January 11th 2014Batik - the People behind the Cloth a talk by Diane and Jim Gaffney    Diane and Jim are well known specialists in batik and handmade textiles - initially from Indonesia, but today from around the world.  For thirty years they have been travelling, researching and buying textiles and related artefacts from skilled artisans.

A History of Buttons a talk by Jenny Swindells

We wear buttons every day, but how much do we know about their origins and development? Jenny is a member of the British Button Society and has been collecting and researching for over 30 years.  Her talk is illustrated with powerpoint and she will bring a display of her buttons.

Please bring your button tins, and Jenny will identify and value them.

Georgian Embroidery and Costume a talk by Alison Larkin

This talk is an exploration of the embroidery of the Georgian period and how it was used in costume for men and women: this was the beginning of "fashion".  Styles of dress changed dramatically during the era, going from wide skirts and elaborate men's dress, to the simplicity of the Empire line, then back towards the wider skirts of the Victorian period.
Alison will be showing images of Georgian costume and embroidery, as well as bringing examples of reproduction pieces.

 Multi Media Textiles and Magnification a talk by Anna Krystyna Casey

Inspired by the intricate details of the world around us Anna Krystyna's range is an assortment of unusual pieces exploring magnification.  The familiar textiles process of crochet is transformed.  Usually soft and pliable fabrics are entrapped, altering the expected properties to form fragile structures.  The resulting objects are versatile as well as beautiful.

Annual Outing to

The Ashmolean Museum, Oxford 

The Ashmolean has much to offer in itself but also in August there will be an exhibition:

 “The Eye of the Needle: English Embroideries from the Feller Collection”

 This is an opportunity to see the first public display of 17th century embroideries from this collection together with examples from the Ashmolean’s own holdings.

Gnome is a 3D soft sculpture 30cm high with articulated head, legs and arms. He was made for a City and Guilds unit of work (3D functional item) and this talk expains the processes completed from joke to reality.
