ALISON DAYKIN -
LOOKING AT LIFE THROUGH A WEAVER’S EYES 

Alison is an award winning textile designer who lives close to the Peak District which provides a lot of her inspiration.  She teaches weaving, spinning and dyeing to adults. She creates unique hand woven fabrics that fuse contemporary design with traditional fibres and techniques.

MICHELLE HARPER
- TEXTILE CONSERVATION
 

Michelle is a freelance textile conservator. She has worked on diverse projects such as the mask worn by John Merrick, the elephant man, wall hangings in National Trust and British Heritage properties as well as private assignments where family heirlooms are displayed to advantage.

DIANE GAFFNEY - ALL ALONG THE SILK ROUTE  

Diane’s talk describes an overland trip she took with her husband along the Silk Route focussing on textile producing centres. On the way she discovered carpet making, natural dyeing, fine suzani embroidery, felt making and ikat weaving.

KIT WATTS - RETHINKING EMBROIDERY

This talk will explore the ideas of Rozsika Parker’s book The Subversive Stitch: Embroidery and the Making of the Feminine in which she tracks women’s social history in relation to the history of embroidery.

ALYSYN MIDGELOW-MARSDEN - BEYOND BABIES BEETROOTS AND BUNSEN BURNERS
 

Until recently Alysn owned and ran the nearby Beetroot Tree, (in Draycott), which is a showcase for contemporary art and designer crafts.  She still has strong links with the area and will be also leading our Workshop on November 16th.

This talk is about a journey through the development of Alysn’s recent work.
