"STITCHING A WELCOME TO THE ATHLETES OF THE WORLD"
  and
"ORIENTATION"

On 16th October 18 of us went to see the Embroiderers' Guild exhibition of members' postcards at Artrix at Bromsgrove and also "Orientation" an exhibition of textile art at Forge Mill Needle Museum, Redditch.  We had a guided tour of the Forge Mill Museum and stopped off at nearby Jinny Ring Craft Centre for lunch.

Some of our impressions of the day:

"I thoroughly enjoyed all three sections of the day and would be happy to repeat any, or all, of them to get even more out of the visits.

For inspiration the 'Athletes of the World' exhibition is hard to beat! It was quite humbling to see the range of ideas, skills and talent on display, all produced by fellow members of the Guild. It was great to see our own branch's work - didn't they do us proud? - playing its part.

Some of the postcards from the exhibition

The Needle Museum, with its guided tour, gave a fascinating account of the production and history of an item, which we, as embroiderers, take so very much for granted! It was quite terrifying that such tiny utilitarian items could be the cause of early death in those who made them. I shall never look at needles in the same light again!

Tour of the Needle Museum

The exhibition there was a well worthwhile addition to the day, with some exquisite work to admire and inspire!

Jinney Ring provided a lovely lunch break in its stunning setting overlooking the Malvern Hills. It left me wanting to return and explore more."
