Moira Ackers - History of Samplers
Moira is a creative textiles tutor with an interest in the history of embroidery and has had her work published in "Cloth, Paper, Scissors'.

Michala Gyetvai - Her Story
Michala is essentially a fine artist who paints and sculpts with threads, stitching and layering her images in a complex variety of materials, employing both hand and machine techniques.  She is currently using dyed and boiled woollen blankets on which she draws and paints with threads, layer upon layer.  Her website is Michala Gyetvai

Seamstresses to Shirts - Sarah Thursfield

Sarah is most widely known as the author of "The Medieval Tailor's Assistant" but she has been researching the story of dress for more than 20 years and sewing for more than 40. She took City and Guilds Fashion (Parts I and II) in the early 80s and started making clothing for re-enactment. Her website is Sarah Thursfield

Blackwork - Elizabeth Almond

Elizabeth has worked as an embroiderer and tutor throughout her career and is especially fascinated with Blackwork, Whitework, and counted thread techniques.  Having taught classes in community education she has exhibited and worked to commission ad provided charts of her designs.  She now gives talks on embroidery and organises day schools and courses for beginners through to experienced embroideries, both in the UK and abroad. Mother of Pearl Trade - George Hook

The Hook family have been associated with the Mother of Pearl trade since 1824.  The original factory was situated in the Hockley area of Birmingham and was one of many companies years ago that worked with Mother of Pearl.  Most of the trade in those days was button making and this was how their family business came about.  Their website is

Pam Keeling is a past Chair of the East Midlands Regional Committee and has been involved in the yearly Kickstart projects.  Kickstart staring in 2002/03 at Calke Abbey and the current topic is

Hitting a Brick Wall - Barbara Taylor

After completing City and Guilds Level 2, Barbara and her fellow students formed "Jeudis" and began exhibiting in 2007.  She also belonged to "BOLT" for 4 years with Jean Littlejohn, acting as mentor for the group.  Barbara's work involves a variety of techniques - at present she is working in miniature!  Once a month, she enjoys sharing ideas with the members of "Loose Ends" in Rothley.

Miscellany - Brenda Scarman
A choice of velvet needlecase, Suffolk Punch dangle and English humbug - to be agreed prior to the workshop.
Brenda is recognised as one of Lincolnshire's most widely regarded traditional embroidery tutors and speakers.  She has been a winner of the Mildred Higgins Award 2009 and Lincolnshire Embroiderers Guild Exhibitor at the National Needlework Championships.  Her website is Brenda Scarman
