Paper, Fold: Stitch as Art - Jo Hall Jo is an HND Lecturer of Experimental Embroidery and Fashion at North Warwickshire and Hinckley College. Her work combines machine stitching with paper, cloth and old haberdashery items to create graphical and three-dimensional pieces. 8th February Goldwork & Conservation of Church Fabrics - Sue Pilkington- Hanna Sue is an embroiderer, restorer and lecturer. She is a tutor of goldwork and silk thread embroidery and is certified by the Royal School of Needlework. "My..... work is based in mixed media, techniques using papers, fabrics, sheers, in fact anything I have to hand". 10th May Needle Know-how - Karen Parry Entaco Limited is the home of John James Needles. Karen will give an insight into the different types of needles and their purpose. 14th June Guild Scholar 2012 - Jo Smith Chosen by the Embroiderers Guild to be their scholar for 2012. 12th July Bags/Books/Boxes - Isobel Hall Isobel works with fabrics that have been made from scratch and creates bags, books, vessels, boxes and jewellery. She is a mixed media textile artist who uses machine embroidery and traditional stitching. 9th August Show/Tell/Cream Tea 13th September Bess of Hardwick: An Extraordinary Woman - Julie Ede Not an embroiderer but an amateur historian who will give a talk on Elizabeth Talbot, Countess of Shrewsbury (c. 1521 – 13 February 1608), known as Bess of Hardwick. 11th October AGM and Open Stitch Workshop AGM starts at 11.30am and we have a Bring and Share Lunch. 8th November History of Buttons - Jenny Swindells Jenny is a member of the British Button Society and has been collecting and researching for over 30 years. Take your button tin along to the Branch meeting and Jenny will identify and value them. 13th December Christmas Social We have our yearly competitions, quizzes, raflle and enjoy a shared tea - don't have any lunch! | Dayschools (10am - 4pm) Open to both Members and Non-Members 22nd March Stitch. Paper, Fold: Stitch as Art - Jo Hall Based on her talk in January. 28th June (Rearranged from 2013) Stumpwork - Kay Dennis Kay has been interested in embroidery since the age of 4 and in the late 60s Kay attended a textile course including the basic techniques of needlelace. In 1983 she attended a specialised needlelace class and starting teaching this to local groups and then more widely. It was through needlelace that she first came across stumpwork in 1989. Stumpwork embroidery enables Kay to put embroidery and needlelace together and then started to teach this too. Kay is married to Michael who is also a craftsman. She teaches basic techniques and City and Guilds at Knuston Hall and Missenden Abbey. She has written books and produced a series of folios on Stumpwork for the Embroiderers Guild. These folios are available to be seen at Embroiderers Guild Headquarters. Kay was unable to come to the Branch last year and we are looking forward to seeing her in 2014. Viv makes multi-media textile art and her workshop is "a beatiful collection of mixed media memories housed in a secret pocketed fabric book. Could be memories of a new baby, family photos, a special holiday or just something you don't ever want to forget". |
