Welcome to Lincolnshire Branch Events and News a new feature where we will give you a bit more detail about our meetings past and present. Last month, September, was our AGM followed by some short talks by a few of our members on interesting events or exhibitions they had been to over the summer. Carolyn Merry gave a very entertaining talk about her visit to Waterperry Gardens for Art in Action and to the William Morris gallery in Walthamstow to visit the Nicola Jarvis exhibition, (Nicola had been a speaker at our June meeting), Wendy Ramsey talked eloquently about her trip to Macclesfield Silk Museum for the fantastic Sue Rangely exhibition and Brenda Scarman talked about residential courses she had attended, inspirational tutors and new stitches learned. During the lunch break we had a sales table a treasure trove of goods from clearing Joan Harris's workroom, a good sum of money was raised by Cathie for Joan's 'sherry fund'. We also viewed the first of three DVD's of the Sporting World postcards the Embroiderers' Guild contribution to the London 2012 Olympics, It was wonderful to see the variety of stitch and great to recognise our own branch's Comoros postcards.
After lunch Dee introduced the Branch Challenge, two famous paintings divided into 36 rectangles each, at least one for each of our members, to embroider in any way we chose, the pieces would be put together later to form our own masterpiece! we were all given cloth and our piece of the painting to work from as members rushed to the sales table to stock up with appropriate coloured thread and beads!
The afternoon was concluded by watching an interview with textile artist Kaffe Fassett which a member had found on his website and thought we would enjoy, which we did.
Also on display at the meeting were last year's branch challenge work, DIY embroidery, and the Mildred Higgin's competition entries for Light and Shade.
