Regional Competition 2015

At a recent meeting (Summer 2014) of the EMREG Committee we began to look at the results of the recent Survey of Regional Members.

One of the suggestions made by you was that the title of the Regional Day Members' Competition should be released earlier than the AGM in September to give the summer months to plan and begin work on an entry. In response to that it was decided that in future the title would be announced at Regional Day.

That opportunity has now passed for this year but there are still some summer months to go. SO....the title for the 2015 Regional Day Members' Competition is:

This has been chosen to reflect the subject of the Madeira Lecture for 2015 which is 'From Bark Cloth to Art Cloth - My Personal Journey' which will be given by Bobby Britnell.

Bobby exhibited jointly with Ruth Issett at the 2013 Knitting & Stitching Shows where she highlighted the work she has been developing using Ugandan Bark Cloth and the charity 'Hands Up For Uganda' which she has established to support those who make it. You might like to consider using Bark Cloth in your work but it is not compulsory. Some of you may already have experimented with it.

Mary Sleigh is very happy to supply her second book ‘Exploring African Themes’ for the reduced price of £10 (plus £2p&p) to anyone wanting to take part in the competition.  Her first book ‘African Inspirations in Embroidery ‘ is available on Amazon at a very reasonable price.
“For those taking part in the challenge and want a copy at the price I suggested they can email me on  with a request and postal address.
Payment can be made by using Paypal which is secure and very simple. They do not need to have a Paypal account as I send them an invoice and it all works well.”    Mary Sleigh.

Inspiration notes for this subject are attached at the bottom of this page. You can view, download, save and print them. In the meantime...I hope you will find the earlier notification is helpful in your planning and making.
