Changes
“78 Derngate” Northampton NN1 1UH, an exhibition by
all Threaded Together.
78 Derngate, Northampton is the only house in England with interiors designed by Charles Rennie Macintosh. It is an amazing mixture of Art Deco pattern and colour. It is a house well worth a visit.
‘all Threaded Together’ had arranged to stage its Changes exhibition in the gallery at Number 78 in May 2020. Obviously, the show did not take place. Covid has meant a two year wait to show the work and we are lucky that the gallery has kept a slot for us this year.
‘all Threaded Together’ is a group of artists who practice a diverse range of textile art. The members’ interests are varied and individual, their styles unique. A variety of textile skills can be seen: hand and machine embroidery, fabric dyeing, printing and painting, digital imagery, quilting techniques and shibori, producing work in both two and three dimensions. Inspiration can come from nature, urban and environment habitats, poetry, diverse cultures and historical costume. Each member explores individual themes and interests, as well as group themes that have a more structured brief. For this, their fourth major exhibition, there are two themes; each person has produced a piece of work inspired by the Charles Rennie Mackintosh house where the exhibition is held as well as work on the theme ‘change’.
