Update on activities 2024

Below are some photographs from our monthly meetings and workshops.

At our monthly meeting in January, the group had a go at a Victorian technique of embellishing flowered fabric with stiches and beads (example in the first photograph).

In February, there was a workshop on gold work run by Hanny Newton showing her contemporary approach to gold work (examples in the second and third photographs).

At the group's April meeting, we used iron on transfer printing to colour fabric with a design and enhance with a choice of own embroidery (examples in the fourth and fifth photographs).

Update on activities March 2023

Our group has gradually grown over the past 12 months and we now have 35 members. We had an exhibition stand at The Big Textile show in Leicester last year and had a lot of interest and a few new members. We have also had enquiries through the information about Independent Stitch Groups from the Embroiderers Guild website.

All our meetings so far this year have been practical sessions. In January we has a go at doing “Creative Tucks” and Lorraine Marr showed us how to make a needle felted landscape in February. We embroidered on preserved leaves in March and April’s meeting is Linda Chevell giving a talk entitled “Quilty Pleasures”

April 2022

We are really lucky to have so many people attending our meetings this year with lots of visitors and new numbers.

Just a few reminders of future meetings:

May meeting Isabel is leading the session, Chamomile and Buttercup Meadow. Please bring your sewing kit, plus a pin and a tapestry needle and a small hoop if you use one. You will need embroidery threads or fine perle in white, 2 shades of yellow and 2 or 3 shades of green.  Isabel will demonstrate some of the stitches.

We are also having a plant sale, please bring any small plants or cuttings to sell.

Wednesday June 22nd is our trip to the Collections Resource centre in Barrow. Please put your name down if you would like to join us for

Finally we had a very interesting meeting doing Bargello and also a productive workshop on Saturday at our Print and embroider workshop.

Competitions

Competitions are held each year and judged by members at our Christmas social in December.

For 2024, members have drawn out a 'lucky dip' bag of goodies i.e. fabric, ribbon and beads etc to make a piece of work of their own design, as long as they use at least half of the materials provided and has some embroidery on it. Extra materials and embellishments can be added and it can be 2D or 3D!
